La Crosse Common Council to vote on supporting state film incentives
The bipartisan legislation would create a state film office under the Department of Tourism. The legislation would also offer productions a 25% state tax credit for filming in Wisconsin.
“That tax incentive is all on the money that is spent in Wisconsin so it’s all about the incentive for the local businesses and hiring the local crews. So, it’s not just money that’s going to Hollywood to pay them to come here,” Executive Director of the La Crosse Film Academy and Rivoli Arts District Teddy Eck said.

In 2011, blockbuster films like “Bridesmaids” and “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” were filmed in Wisconsin. Since then, the number of large productions filmed in the state has decreased significantly.
Council member Rebecca Schwarz believes the resolution will encourage film makers to come to the city.
“We will be seen as one of the locations that is friendly to this new and developing industry in Wisconsin.”
The resolution passed through La Crosse’s Judiciary and Administration committee last week after local film groups attended meetings and shared videos asking for support.
The Common Council will vote on the resolution on Thursday.
